The one scene that made me cry writing it

Hello Fabulous Readers!

As authors, our goal is to evoke emotions when you read our books. If a scene is meant to be humorous, we hope to make you laugh. If it’s extremely sad, we want to move you to tears. We know—it sounds a bit mean of us, doesn’t it?

Did you know that we sometimes cry while writing scenes because we put so much emotion into them? There is a scene in His Return (HIS Series) where someone dies. I won’t reveal who it is to avoid giving it away, I promise. Even after nearly ten years since I wrote it, the scene still gives me goosebumps and makes my heart ache.

Just as when we read, writing allows us to envision the scene. It transports us to that time and place. Letting this character die was difficult, but sometimes it has to happen.

I cried so much while writing that it took me several days to finish the scene because I couldn’t see the computer screen through my tears. Each time I started writing, the scene took on a life of its own, wrenching my heart and making my hands tremble. Yes, authors do get emotional about their characters, regardless of the situation.

There was another scene in that book that really tugged at my heartstrings, but the one where the character dies was almost too overwhelming. If you’re looking for a book that will evoke strong emotions, I recommend the award-winning His Return, which is a standalone novel in the HIS series.

When you cry at a scene and curse the author, remember he or she probably cried while writing it. Alternatively, the truly evil ones might just be laughing.

Until next time,
