Are your characters based on real people, or entirely fictional?
The characters are completely fictional in Bound to Grace; in all my other books, they are modeled off people in my life. But I do use familiar names for my characters. My MMCs reflect the different sides of my husband.
How do you handle writer’s block, especially during emotional or steamy scenes?
I turn to my husband and let him read what I wrote and he will give me his honest opinion and tell me where I should go from there or tell me if I should throw it in the trash.
What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Write! Tell your story no matter the negativity that may surround it! I have had too much negativity in my life, so writing is my safe space- bye-bye negativity!
Do you have any quirky writing habits or rituals?
Yes, I need music playing and caffeine right beside me to concentrate on what I am writing.
Which books or authors have influenced you the most?
Nicholas Sparks, Jr. Ward, LJ Shein, Sheila Kell. Each author has helped me learn and develop different things; for example, Sheila has helped me develop my writing style and my character development. Nicholas Sparks has shown me that happily-ever-afters can be OK no matter the situation. Jr. ward is my spirit animal, she has shown me that it is OK to be your authentic self people will still love you. LJ Shein has shown me that it is OK for readers to hate your main characters.
What do you like to read in your free time?
Sleep and drink Dr. Pepper.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on the third book in this trilogy. Book two, Haunted by Desire, comes out in October!
Do you have a dream project you hope to write someday?
Yes! I hope to do a collab one day with a few of my author friends, that could possibly interconnect different subgenres of romance.
If you could trade lives with another character in your book for a day, who would it be?
Kassani Carter because she has CP like me but has overcome it all!
What do you hope your legacy as a writer will be?
I hope my legacy as a writer will show women that you don’t have to be model size to be loved, and that you can fit in any world no matter your preference for love or whether you have a disability. And for women to always know that their crown needs to shine and they may not need a man to do it.
